Tronus: “We are happy with the sound we have”
Tronus is the duo project formed by Victor Quintana aka Uwe and Albert Díaz better known as Outral. Both artists hail from Barcelona and come with a broad musical career.
Tronus was born with the idea of offering a new interpretation of electronic music of the local scene. A unique, intense and passionate Techno sound springs from the union of two broad musical philosophies which have much in common.
While they are preparing for their next performance at Insert Club on December 10th, we asked them some questions.
1) BTS: How and when was the Tronus project born?
V: The project was created naturally, through years of mutual friendship and playing together through long periods of time. We came to realize we shared a similar and compatible musical taste. We also shared general values about the life that you have to have to start a project with another person. This happened sometime during the end of 2015.
2) BTS: You have published three EPs in one year and you are waiting for the next release, Ater EP, that will take place in December. How has the sound of the duo evolved since its inception till now?
A: The truth is that this year our sound has evolved a lot since our debut album on Sintetics Label. What we think is normal for a project that we started from scratch. On the other hand, we keep material of each EP that we put out and use it in our upcoming works. This helps us develop and improve the sound. We are happy with the sound we have, especially because we think we bring a personal touch.
3) BTS: What is the special feature of your new release compared to previous records?
V: We were looking for sounds which were a lot more raw and rough for this EP, and this is reflected in the track Ater. As Albert told you before, these sounds will also be reflected in future releases, thus forming part of our sound palette.
A: We must say that the EP includes two remixes with which we got very happy results, one by Deepbass and another by Vilix.
4) BTS: We have experienced a change in the Barcelona Techno scene in the last four years. What can you say about techno that is currently being produced in Barcelona?
V: If we talk exclusively about production, I think that very good techno is being produced in Barcelona. We can not speak of a characteristic sound, like the “Berlin sound” yet. I think that to go a step further in that direction we would have to create more synergies between artists, for example through collaborations.
Although each one have their particular vision of the sound they want, there are always connecting points.
A: We have some projects in mind in this way that we hope will be carried out in 2018.
5) BTS: Can you name two or three labels from Barcelona which are producing original, different and intelligent Techno material?
A: Yes of course, Dead Rose is one that has our respect, a label that is more than established and always produces quite interesting material. The guys at Kindcrime are also dropping interesting stuff, and betting on local artists.
V: We already have an agreed upon a launch with another good label settled in Barcelona in early 2018. This will be revealed before long.
6) BTS: What element has the sound of Tronus contributed to the Barcelona techno scene?
V: I think it’s still early to speak in those terms, I do not think we have that level of repercussion yet. Although it is true that many of our colleagues here have supported our work by playing our tracks at clubs in the city.
Likewise, foreign artists based in Barcelona such as Deepbass, Ness and others have also supported our tracks, which is important for us and we appreciate it.
7) Since October this year you have become part of Insert Booking Agency. What does this fact mean for you?
A: It is always an important step, since in some way you feel that your artistic career becomes a bit more professional. On the other hand, Insert is a reference of underground techno in Barcelona and the same philosophy about the world of techno unites us.
We believe that connection between both parts has been fluid. We hope that our collaboration will be fruitful and lasting.
8)BTS: Do you have any project in mind that encourages “vision of Techno without ties”, as part of the Tronus´ philosophy?
V: It is still early to talk about it, but we intend to make a 100% Live PA. It is one of the ideas to be developed in 2018, although the “Hybrid Live” is still young. Therefore, let’s say we do not have excessive urgency, which we believe will help us develop in the best possible way.
