TiltHAMMER: “I wanted to feel the energy in my music”
Hailing from Hungary, TiltHAMMER, got hooked on Techno ever since he attended the first party featuring this style of electronic music in Budapest.
He was a resident Dj at Kashmir Club and has played at many events in Budapest and places like Wien, Graz, Linz, Zagreb and Kiev.
TiltHAMMER has also been producing music since 2008 and has seen his work published on labels such as Mental Torments, Cannibal Society, Animasola and AudioCode.
One of his most recent projects was the creation of his own Twiztid Records label.
By his own label, TiltHAMMER has released the EPs What Do You Want, Dazed & Confused, Conquer & Devour and Use Me Abuse Me.
He has been characterized as an active producer, who in recent years has managed to renovate his sound yet stil respecting various elements which are key to his style.
1)BTS: When did you start to dedicate yourself to the production and what motivated you to do it?
T: I started to produce tracks by the end of 2008. The only thing that motivated me was to hear my music blasting when renowned artists played my tracks on. I wanted to see the crowd smiling and rocking it on the dance floor. I wanted to do something what makes me happy and I wanted to feel the energy in my music.
2)BTS: What moment was the hardtechno scene living when you started producing?
T: The Hardtechno scene was on top when I started to produce. We had a lot of parties here in Budapest. Honestly I can tell you we had parties twice or three times per month. It was so good…. Good old times and such a good memories in my life!
3)BTS: Your productions have been published on different labels. Are there any labels for which you feel a particular admiration?
T: Of course! Mental Torments because my first vinyl release was there. On the other hand, I really loved Inflicted Records, System Calls, Compressed and Animasola among others. These labels had a big impact on me.
4)BTS: Due to the follow up we do of your work, we know that you are preparing new material. Can you tell me anything about it?
T: Sure, When I have some free time beside my real life, I dedicate myself to do something new. Like these days… I already sent a new album to PETDuo and I’m still waiting for their answer about the possibility of launching this work on Cause Records. In addition, I’m working on my own label and I started to develop a different sound with an alter ego profile.
5)BTS: It’s been one year since you created your own Twiztid Records label. What do you think it means for a producer to have a label of his own?
T: For me it means being able to release my own stuff as soon as possible. I don´t want to wait for months for an answer from a different label. Moreover, having a label allows me to have control over my music. I do not want to have to change something in it, not even the mastering or a couple of sounds, because it does not fit into the profile of another label.
6)BTS: You have performed at several events of BudapesTechno, promoter group who are regularly throwing hardtechno parties in this part of Europe. What can you tell the genre´s lovers to encourage them to attend one of these events?
T: Get your shoes on, come over and you will see! We have really good atmosphere here in Budapest and the crowd is wonderful, the people are awesome! Of course, we do our best when we are performing. Familiar atmosphere parties where everybody is a true hardtechno freak!
7)BTS: February 18th is your next performance at R33, Budapest, at another party organized by BudapesTechno. Will there be any news regarding the set you are going to offer?
T: I would like to make a classic hardtechno set on vinyls. I think it could be wonderful and maybe I can smuggle some different sound than the other artists.
8)BTS: Moving to a more personal level, what does TiltHAMMER enjoy the most when listening to music?
T: The freedom!
9)BTS: What can displease TiltHAMMER musically?
T: I don´t like hardcore or any hardcore elements in hardtechno. I can’t understand why “we” need to mix these genres.
10)BTS: And finally, would you like to share anything with the audience about activities you do in your spare time?
T: I really enjoy doing my job. I am a barmanager and head bartender and I´m usually thinking about new flavors, new garnishes for the drinks and more.
I am gonna open a skybar in the near future, this occupies all of my spare time.
