Hardgroove: The Happy Face Of Powerful Techno
Hardgroove. To some people, techno hardgroove reached its zenith a few years ago and went into a bit of a decline sometime around 2014. But BTS know that this happy genre is still very much alive and kicking.
Hardgroove techno is a funky variant of techno that is characterized by catchy beats, high energy and an upbeat mood that is lighter than hard techno, grooves at its finest.
It’s a happy, summery style of techno that brings smiles on everyone’s faces. It’s little surprise, then, that sunnier countries such as Portugal, Spain and Croatia are still dancing to its beat, hosting beach parties and creating this magical music.
Gonçalo M is an established hardgroove techno Dj who was born in Portugal, but who has played in sold-out venues around the world, including Europe, Asia and South America. He’s strongly regarded as one of Portugal’s best-ever techno Djs who loads his sets with lots of percussion and groove.
Gonçalo M’s countryman Du’ArT is another major talent from Portugal. He is heavily influenced by the likes of Carl Cox and Ben Sims, and plies his trade on Dj Rush’s label Kne’Deep. No longer simply a “red hot up comer,” he’s very much at the top of his game.
Banging the hardgroove drum next door in Spain is David Moleon, a renowned techno Dj who has played on the same bill as the likes of Sven Väth and Vitalic in the past. His style of hardgroove can become a little more direct, harder and quicker than his Portuguese counterparts, depends of the moment.
In Spain, Granada is a place that has seen born and grow this genre. Most of the hardgroove artists in Spain are from Granada, and those who are not, at least have been playing there, as well as the most outstanding artists of the European scene.
But is perhaps in Eastern Europe where a real revolution is occurring, thanks to festivals such as Hideout and ECO. Slovenia is home to Dj Gumja, owner of the renowned label Techsturbation Records.
Gumja’s brand of hardgroove is at times vibrant and sunny, and at other times harder and faster. And hailing from nearby Croatia is prominent Dj and producer Chris Chambers, an artist who recently made a call-to-arms to all hardgroove fans with his album, “RevolutionOfHardgroove.”
As well as Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and Croatia, other countries around the world continue to host hardgroove in their parties and put together new exciting releases.
